Boy Scouts
The Boy Scouts is a great organization. Today, according to the Wikipedia free encyclopedia, there are more than 2 million boys enrolled. More boys need to be involved in it.
The Boy Scouts are a throw back to when our nation recognized the need for boys to develop character and the proper social skills required to make good as an adult. The same principles were behind the Girl Scouts. Preparing young people for adulthood is common sense and insures the continuation of a great society. Teaching them discipline, courage, obedience, sharing, sportsmanship, and general social skills is good for society. Therefore my administration will make it a point to push the Boy Scouts to new heights and enrollment. This is important since boys eventually become the next leaders of all facets of our nation.
Today there are too many bad influences on our young people and this needs to be changed. It is our responsibility as adults to watch over and protect these youngsters and be aware of what they are putting in their minds since they don't understand life like we do.
Today those in the entertainment industry who influence our culture do not care about our children. They do care about money and they will do whatever it takes to make as much of it as they can, without regards for how it affects the children in the long term. That's why society must restrain these "artists".
Cultural standards and morals used to be set by adults, who understand much more about life than kids do. Today America's youth set cultural standards and morals for themselves - a trend that started in the 1960's and has progressively gotten worse. And unfortunately kids are influenced more by those who are willing to give them what they want rather than by those are willing to give them what they need. Those who are after their dollars couldn't care less about the welfare of the young person they are influencing. It's been this way since the 1960's.
Since my administration will be one that focuses on domestic problems, as opposed to trying to solve the world's problems, there will be a new emphasis placed on what is best for youngsters since they will be the next ones to run the country. Letting them run wild and free for the last forty years, being strongly influenced by the amorality of Hollywood and the music culture has had a devastating effect on our culture. And now we have the computers to deal with - and the bad influences that we all know are on the internet. Closing our eyes to these influences will not make them go away. Addressing them will help us right the course of our culture. The alternative is to stand by and watch our society gradually disintegrate - like we've been doing.
Does that mean that my administration is going to promote "censorship"? There's that bad word - "censorship". The one that we have all been conditioned to equate with cussing. Oh, we mustn't "censor" anyone!
That's the general consensus today, that "censorship" is bad. But that is not sound reasoning - thinking that everyone should be able to do whatever they want or say whatever they want to say in the name of freedom. That negates all of the responsibility that goes with freedom. That's why our society is breaking down! Our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they knew that we were letting those members of society who have the lowest morals dictate the culture for the rest of society. This kind of thinking slowly destroys a society.
All generations up until the 1960's understood the need to teach young people, who were just becoming adults, the character qualities that would help them be successful in life. These always included the need to be honest, hard working, self controlled, disciplined, patient, understanding, discerning, neat, orderly, patriotic, respectful of the elderly, respectful of women, and respectful of authority - and all of the other virtues that young people need to apply to become citizens of good character. Today too little of this is going on. But the Boy Scouts are doing their share.
If we are going to change the course of our nation we will be forced to deal with the bad influences that we, as adults, know are harming America's youth. This includes the Hollywood culture, the music culture and the sexual content on the internet. Therefore my administration will take the initiative to "censor" what the "artists" (such as Britney Spears and Madonna, etc.) flaunt and the bad influences that they spread to American society through their "art". But it will not be government mandated.
It will be parent and grandparent mandated. The government will initiate it and give parents and grandparents the authority and protection that they need from the ACLU to "censor" what they feel is negatively affecting their kids. The government will not be making the decisions. The parents and grandparents will.
[The American Taxpayers will have the opportunity to vote on whether the following committee on social reform described below will become a reality. The "Meet and Vote" process will be used.]
I will set up a volunteer committee whose sole purpose will be to monitor and censor the amorality of those in the entertainment industry who have an influence on America's children. [They will work with the Federal Communications Commission and have executive authority to revoke the license of a violator.]
This social reform committee will be made up entirely of citizens with no decision making influence from government employees of any kind or any rank. The committee will be made up of women (only) who have a lot of experience with raising children. [Who loves children and knows instinctively what is best for them more than mothers and grandmothers?] Protecting children is the main duty of this social reform committee.
The requirements to be on this committee will be strict since this committee will be responsible for what comes out of the entertainment industry and goes into the minds of our nation's children. The minimum age for the committee members will be 45 years old and there will be no maximum age.
The volunteer will have raised at least 3 children of her own and all of her children and/or grandchildren must have the reputation of being an upright citizen. No one on this committee will have a criminal record and neither will any of their children or grandchildren. None of the committee members will be allowed to be employed elsewhere since they won't have time to do both "jobs" properly.
Are you getting the idea that we want only the highest quality of family oriented people on this committee who have experience with what is best for children? You're guessing right. Both major political parties will be equally represented on this committee since our nation seems to vote about 50/50 when it comes time to vote for the president. We don't want the committee stacked with any one type of anything. We will make it as diverse as possible - not only politically, but racially and religiously. I will not personally make the choices concerning potential committee members but will appoint women to form the committee and decide who is going to be on it.
The committee will be the most influential group of citizens concerning social reform during my administration. It is being made up of women because they love children and know what's best for children, and they are more willing to look out for children, not to mention that they are typically better people (generally speaking) than men and are less likely to make this process into a big corrupt mess. Putting the right women on this committee will do wonders for returning morality and decency to our culture.
As for the Boy Scouts and other organizations whose purpose it is to build character and social skills in youngsters, my administration will work with them to help them spread their influence in society and to take them to new heights.
Preparing the next generation of American citizens is not rocket science. It's simply a matter of teaching them about right and wrong in the real world so that they have enough discernment to be able to see through the foolishness that comes out of the Hollywood culture and the other aspects of the entertainment industry. You want real change in 2008? This time around vote the American Taxpayer party.
