North Korea/Iran
Do you think that it is just a coincidence that both North Korea and Iran stepped up their plans for nuclear weapon's capability after the U.S. invasion of Iraq? To me it's obvious why this has happened.
Let me paint a scenario for you and see if this doesn't all make sense. Please remember that it will help you understand better if you are willing to keep in mind that the key to understanding how other people react is to put yourself in that person's shoes.
The more that you are able to understand the situation from the other person's point of view, the better you will understand why he reacts the way he does. With that in mind, also remember that the leaders of these two nations are only human like you and me. Here's the scenario.
You're the leader of one of these two nations, okay? On January 29, 2002 the president of the strongest country in the world (with the strongest military in the world) goes public and states that your nation, along with two other nations, are now being called out among all of the nations of the world as the "axis of evil".
You know that your nation does not agree with U.S. policies but this is quite a shock being singled out in public like this. After having your advisors look into this you call a meeting to find out what it is all about. Much to your amazement you find out that this is American tough talk with references to the evil axis powers of World War II and the "Evil Empire" mentioned by a former U.S. president concerning their arch enemy, the Soviet Union.
You're not sure what to make of this but it is obviously derogatory and it sounds like he wants to pick a fight. But you're a much smaller nation and this may just be bully talk. You sure weren't ready for something like this. But now you think maybe the nation should be prepared for a possible attack by this big bully. As the next few months go by the U.S. doesn't seem to be sending troops your way so the order is given to just keep an eye on the U.S. media and the U.S. military ship and troop movements. It was probably just bully talk.
Six months go by and there doesn't seem to be any threat headed your way so life returns to normal. Six months later you hear on the U.S. news media that one of the "axis of evil" nations, Iraq, has been attacked by the U.S. The city of Baghdad is being rocked with what the bullies smugly call "shock and awe". Boy, these Americans really think they are something, pushing smaller nations around like this. "Why don't they go attack China and get a surprise," you say to your advisors.
It becomes clear now. The U.S. was not just talking. It just required a year for them to get all of the logistics right and to get all of their military in place before they could attack! You're one of the other three nations that the U.S. hates! You're probably next. Since you know that your nation cannot defeat the bullies when they attack, and since it is your responsibility to protect your nation's population the only way out now is to try to get some nuclear weapons ready.
Your advisors explain to you that time has shown that the U.S. bullies will not attack a nation that can fight back with nuclear weapons. It's our only hope of salvation! The limited nuclear technology that you currently have will not be enough. You tell your advisors to get as much nuclear technology as they can as fast as they can. Get going, NOW! Hurry up! We need to detonate one of those things so the United States can see that we are a real nuclear power. That will keep them from attacking.
If you were that leader what would you do? Be honest. I know what I would do. I'd get me some nuclear bombs. These leaders are human just like you and me. They have pride just like you and me. They don't like to be picked on, just like you and me. Did Mr. Bush expect these leaders to cow down and submit to what he wants? Did he expect them to have an immediate revelation concerning their lack of love for Americanism? To be honest, it sounded to me like he was wanting to pick a fight. Talk about a lack of diplomacy!
There is great power in what we say - especially if you are the leader of the biggest, richest, most powerful nation in the world. And especially if you have all of this power and are calling somebody out. Now, I voted for President Bush so don't take me wrong, but please listen to me. President Bush should have never called out and embarrassed anyone or any nation publicly. With this tough talk and then the attack on Iraq he backed these nations into a corner. That's why the big push for nuclear weapons.
North Korea and Iran were not on the radar screen at that time like they are now. They both were just going about their business until they were called out and were forced to step up their nuclear programs. Then they saw the U.S. attack one of the nations that President Bush had called out. Both remaining nations have now made it very clear to the United States that they are not wasting time getting weapons to defend themselves against a U.S. attack.
Now I can't say that I agree with how these men run their countries, but what business is it of mine, President Bush's or anybody else's? There have always been dictators and leaders with differing ideologies. What did the world do before we came along? Have we not yet learned that the United States of America cannot police the entire world on a perpetual basis.
Do our leaders really think that it is the responsibility of the American Taxpayers to provide billions of tax dollars to be used to conform the world to American ideals? Don't they realize that the rest of the world sees us as a bunch of bullies now days as we go from this country to that telling nations how to run their affairs? Do any of our leaders ever ask themselves whether the rest of the world really cares what America thinks?
As your next president I plan on diffusing this situation. I think that the "rogue" nations of the world need to know that even though I do not agree with their forms of government, and even though I do not agree with the freedom's that their populations might enjoy, I have no plans of attacking anyone for any reason. My presidential agenda does not include or revolve around telling leaders of other nations how to run their affairs.
My plans are to work on straightening out our nation by forcing the will of the people on to our leaders. That will be a full time job. The rest of the world will be glad to see us leave everybody alone for a while. To diffuse the situation with Iran and North Korea I plan on asking both leaders to visit Washington. These may be separate visits or they may visit together. I'm not sure at this point as I will need to ask them their preference. After the grand tour of D.C. I will ask them if there are any parts of our nation that they would like to see (not high security locations or military bases, I mean cities - so they can meet the people).
We have a great country and I would like them to see it, so where ever they would like to go I will take them. I understand that the leader of North Korea likes Hollywood movies. If he would like to see Hollywood I will take him to visit there. Treating these men with respect will go a long way to healing the problems between our nations.
Going to a sporting event, to an amusement park, a Kansas City bar-be-que, a university, an American hospital, or just visiting a church social dinner in mid America will help the American Taxpayers see that these men are only human. It will especially help these leaders see that the American people are good, friendly, hard working people and that we don't want to pick on anybody just because we have bigger bombs. It will also help the leader of Iran see that we don't hate or want to kill Muslims and that we understand that the world is big enough for all of us.
I will also offer both leaders the opportunity to join the "Brotherhood of Nations" so that they will be assured that the U.S. cannot attack them. [To understand the "Brotherhood of Nations" please go to Index 1 and click on "Brotherhood of Nations" program.] Once we get this situation diffused the whole country will feel better about the possibility of living together in a more peaceful world. That doesn't mean that we are all going to agree on everything. It just means that we are all willing to concede a little so that our people can live in peace.
