Pornography

Our founding fathers understood the need for a man to learn to control himself sexually - even though this is sometimes easier said than done. Any man knows that if he doesn't control himself sexually it could mean big trouble. One wrong move and it could change his life in a (bad) direction that he did not intend. Walking through life with the male sex drive is like walking through a mine field (for about 50 years). You've got to be real careful.

Unintended consequences of immorality might include an unwanted pregnancy or even the contraction of a deadly disease. That's why the founding fathers didn't even consider allowing pornography amongst themselves. (Don't think that it wasn't available back then in the form of "art" - from European sources.) Isn't self control hard enough without the influence of pornography? Any man knows what I'm talking about.

Looking around at the mistakes others have made and the consequences for their lack of self control should be enough to scare a man into reconsidering what he might be contemplating. But sometimes we don't pay attention to our conscience do we? As humans we have a way of rationalizing our actions sometimes don't we? There are times when anyone is susceptible to immorality - even those who we look up to like Billy Graham or some political leader. We're all just men. We learned that with President Clinton.

The sex drive is so strong - at least among men - that many don't think that they have what it takes to control it. Pornography doesn't help the matter. It's sort of like pouring gasoline on a fire to put it out. But there's not a lot of room for error when it comes to the sex drive. Either you control it or it will control you. That could mean a long, hard life. It's preferable to choose self control when young, before too many mistakes alter the course of your life.

Who would have thought that we'd see the day when pornography was available to any American teenager at no cost, in any amount that he wants? What do you think our founding fathers would say about this? Let's not kid ourselves. Let's not pretend that our kids are not looking at this stuff on the internet. They can feed on it at their heart's desire. Does this mean that every teenage boy is constantly on the computer looking at naked gals? No, I'm not saying they are. But when they want to, it's there. And it's not good for their minds.

Pornography seems to affect some people much worse than it does others. Some men are affected by it in a mild manner. Others turn into sexual maniacs causing the one affected to rape and/or kill women or children because of the twisting of the mind. It can be a fantasy world that twists the mind of a man in a diabolical way so that his perception of women is wrong, reducing the sex act to animal status. For some men it is a dark pit that a man jumps into only to later realize that he can't get out of. The affect that it has on a man and society cannot be underestimated.

I suppose that you could say that pornography is to sex crimes what marijuana is to hard drug use. Not everyone who uses marijuana will end up using hard drugs. But many do. Marijuana is like a door that a person goes through that helps lead him to harder drug use. Likewise, not everyone who looks at pornography will commit sex crimes. But many do. Pornography opens the potential sex criminal up to twisted thinking that may end in a sex crime. This is unacceptable in a society that must promote safety for young women and little girls (and for little boys).

For many men looking at pornography is like playing with fire. Some find themselves addicted to it. Moving the fantasy of it into reality is when the harm to others and to society comes in. There is plenty of evidence that pornography and sex crimes go together hand in hand. The greatest percentage of incarcerated sex criminals admit to starting with pornography (I don't remember the exact percent, but I believe it's over 90%.). Google "pornography and sex crimes" and you'll find more information than you want and plenty of studies by this group and that one showing the relationship between the two. So I'm not going to waste my time making a case for this since it's proven fact.

The question is what do you want to do about it? What should society do about it? Do you care that pornography is rampant and do you want to stop it? Or does it matter, since you don't feel that it is personally affecting you? I think that we need to talk about this issue together, as a nation, on national television, via the "Meet and Vote" program that only the American Taxpayer party offers for 2008. I say let's get the experts to tell us the real effect that pornography is having on our society. If I am wrong about this issue it will become obvious when those who have the facts and figures address the nation during these meetings. But I don't think that I am. In fact, I'm guessing that I don't know the half of it.

[To understand how the "Meet and Vote" program works please go to Index 1 and click on the "Meet and Vote" button. This is a program designed to allow the American Taxpayers the opportunity to decide the course of our nation when it comes to issues like this. Any of the 50+ issues that are listed in Index 2 (that would require a vote) are candidates to be settled by the American Taxpayers via the "Meet and Vote" program. The "Meet and Vote" program will return the will of the people to preeminence, as our founding fathers wanted. ]
