Presidential Salary
As you have probably noticed in the section "Presidential Pledges" in Index 1, I will not be accepting the presidential salary during my administration. If my term extends to 8 years the same rule will apply. In my opinion our country is about bankrupt and does not need to pay the president $400,000.00 per year when living accommodations and food are provided also. Besides that the president also gets an expense account. If that is not enough to keep me afloat I will draw from my own savings. Something tells me that I won't starve to death.
Not accepting the presidential salary is more of a statement than anything. I'm making a statement to the American Taxpayers that I believe it's time to get serious about this national debt that is about to bankrupt the nation. I'm making a statement that every little bit helps. I'm also making a statement to the other leaders in Washington that now is not the time to be voting big raises for ourselves when the American Taxpayers are expecting us to do right by them. I will indeed challenge other highly paid government employees, like Senators and Representatives to take a pay cut so that we can get the national debt paid off as fast as we can. My motto - "Every little bit helps!"
I figure that by the end of my administration my savings will be gone and so I will ask the American Taxpayers to send me a dollar if they thought that I did a good job. If I do a good job that could mean a big pay day. If I don't, maybe there will be enough to help me catch a cab back to Missouri. The plan will be the same for the Vice President. We are coming to Washington as servants, not to take a bunch of money that we don't need.
